Classics meet Jazz is an encounter between musicians from two seemingly different worlds, but at the same time are strongly connected to each other in many ways.
Classics Meet Jazz was born in 2019, during my Master’s studies, from my deep curiosity and passion for jazz.
At that time, I found myself asking: “How can I transfer the essence of jazz to the classical piano repertoire using jazz idioms?”
That question became the seed of this project — a bridge between two musical worlds that, although seemingly distant, share the same essence: rhythm, freedom, and the desire to communicate through sound.
What started as a research journey soon turned into a creative playground.
Playing alongside jazz musicians opened my ears and my heart to a new way of feeling music — freer, more spontaneous, and deeply connected to the present moment. Through this encounter, I began to rediscover the classical repertoire from a new light, bringing freshness and groove to each phrase while honoring the authenticity of every style, adding bass and drums to this repertoire.
With Classics Meet Jazz, my vision is to build a dialogue between classical and jazz, to let these two languages enrich one another and spread this relatively unknown classical piano repertoire with influences from Jazz and other styles: to show the brightness and swing of jazz into the classical world, and at the same time, inviting jazz audiences to feel the poetry and depth of classical music.
Over the years, Classics Meet Jazz has been presented in several renowned festivals such as Aurora Festival 2021, Grachtenfestival, and at the EPARM Congress organized by the European Association of Conservatoires held at the Royal College of Music in London, among others.
Each of these experiences has reaffirmed the universality of this dialogue — how music, when freed from labels, connects us all.
Our latest creation, Dancing with the Classics, takes this fusion even further.
In collaboration with dancers and one choreographer, music and movement come together to create an immersive, emotional stage experience — where sound and body speak the same language.
Premiered in 2023 with the support of Kunstraad and Voordekunst, the project continues to evolve, traveling through concert series across the province of Groningen and beyond.
It’s a journey that keeps expanding — a celebration of rhythm, creativity, and the joy of sharing music without borders.
